5 Steps to Limit Procrastination

As a small business owner it’s easy to put certain projects or tasks off for days, sometimes months. Most people refer to this not so ideal behavior as procrastination, the practice of keeping up with yesterday.

Are you really bad at prioritizing your to-do list? Or, Are you just really good at putting off tedious stuff until the last minute?

Whatever your case may be, I’m here to help you finish those oh so dreaded task on your to-do list and mental checklists. Today I will be introducing you to something new, a procrastination to-do list.

Step 1: Create a List

Take a moment to brainstorm about some of the work related tasks you keep putting off. Somethings you might not recognize as procrastinations, but they actually impact your productivity and success. This could be a simple task that you leave for the end of the day, right before you close up your shop. When really the task could have been done from the moment you walked into your business.

Step 2: Organize Your List

You might be looking at the list you just created and wondering how you will prioritize everything. Organize your list by significance and occurrence.

Significance: Use a numbering system to determine the importance of each item on your list. For example, use the number 1 to represent an entry as being the most important and 5 as less important.

Occurrence: Think about how often these tasks or projects come up at work. Daily? Weekly? Rarely? Many times the same task pops up often. Next to each entry, note an estimated time frame of how regularly it will reoccur.

Now that you have determined the significance and occurrence of each entry, you should have a better idea of how to prioritize them. Scrutinize your list and rank it by order of importance and timeliness.

Step 3: Make Deadlines

Since many of the tasks and projects on your list were easy to put off for days, sometimes months, it’s a good chance that they don’t have deadlines. Self-impose deadlines to promote action. When I did not check a task off of my to-do list when I promised myself it would be done, I felt as if I had failed. To make sure that you check all of the tasks and projects off of your list, remind yourself that everything has to get done at some point. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have made the list. Use the significance and occurrence notes on your list to help you associate a due date for your tasks and projects.

Step 4: Incorporate Those Deadlines into your Daily Schedule

It’s now time to start taking action to complete what’s on your procrastination list by its due date. Now let’s be logical, there’s no way you could spend your entire day checking off each item on your to-do list. So keep calm! You do need to get moving so that you can accomplish as much as you can, as often as possible. Try starting off with the task that you are dreading the most first on your list and you’ll be surprised at how great you’ll feel after completing it. This will motivate you to keep tackling the rest of your day.

Step 5: Add New Items to the List

Each day that you put off something for tomorrow that you could have done today, add those tasks to the list. Don’t dig yourself into a hole. You’ve created a procrastination list which was the hard part. Now just make it a habit to review and add to it daily.

Kind Regards

How to Market Your Company Using Instagram

In a world where technology is ever-changing and constantly being used by professionals, it is vital that professionals stay up to date with how to use technology based programs, to reach their targeted audience.

If you are a business professional, you may know the importance of promoting your business using marketing techniques. The goal behind any great marketing technique, is to try to make a product or service appealing to a particular group of customers.

Why Use Instagram to Market Your Company?

Instagram is a free smartphone app, which can be downloaded for iOS, Android, or Windows devices. Instagram lets you capture and share moments of your everyday life through photo and video features. You can even share the post with family and friends.

Creating an Instagram profile for your business is just the first step to connecting with the community. Every Instagrammer’s goal is to gain followers to their profile and receive likes on their posts. In order to gain a follower base for your business, you have to market your brand.

How to Market Your Brand?

Uploading a simple photo of your company’s products just won’t do the trick. In order to gain followers and make people aware of your product or services, you have to put in work. You might be wondering, “What type of work will be required of my business and will this take up a lot of my time?” This is a fast and simple process. Once you get the steps down of how to operate the app, posting a photo or video will become second nature.

One major way to get your post noticed on Instagram is with the use of hashtags. Many people underestimate the power of hash-tagging when used under a photo. Thousands of Instagrammer’s search Instagram daily under hashtag names. If you own a Baby Clothing Store Company and are in need of more consumers, post a photo of your newest merchandise, and underneath the photo provide a caption. Make sure the photo that you are posting is appealing for your viewers. The filter feature on the Instagram app is one way to bring your most dull and boring photos to life.

Once you have chosen a filter for your photo, the next step is creating the caption. An example of a great caption for your photo include, “Check out our latest spring fashion. Hurry on in so you won’t miss out on our amazing deals this week” or “Our new shipment is finally here! Come on in today to check out some of our other new products.”

Followed by this caption, hashtags can be added such as, “#FashionKids”, “#NewArrivals” or “#BabyClothing”. Hashtags should be strategically centered on your post and interesting enough that individuals would actually search for it.

Additional Techniques to Gain Followers

To gain anywhere between hundreds or thousands of followers, your company can come up with a giveaway contest. Simply post a photo of some items your company would be willing to give away. These items can include your company’s very own logo. Clothing is always a great giveaway as well as gift cards, and even discount coupons. After you have posted a photo featuring your giveaways, add a caption such as, “WIN the hottest giveaway from @BabyClothingStoreCompany. You’ve seen our in demand looks and now is your chance to own it. @BabyClothingStoreCompany is giving away a $100 gift card to our store, one baby outfit of your choice, and one pack of diapers.”

Following this caption add the steps for your followers to follow, in order to win the contest. An example would be, “1. Follow @BabyClothingStoreCompany. 2. Tag 5 friends. The winner will be announced next week. The contest is open NOW. Good Luck!”

Be sure to tag your company’s name during your post. Doing so ensures that your brand is getting noticed. A giveaway post asking your followers to tag other Instagrammer’s, is one way to get your followers interacting on your profile and attract their followers to your profile as well.

If your business can’t afford to do free giveaways do not worry, there are a few other techniques. Your company can feature a photo of an employee using your product or services. After uploading the photo, add a caption such as, “Our very own @BillRoberts using our new water bottle for detoxing. #TeaDetox in pictures of you rocking our new product for a chance to be featured on our page!”

This technique will give a member of your business recognition and promote your product or services at the same time. Giving your followers the chance to be featured on your business profile creates a sense of belongingness for them and identifies them as having importance.

Lastly, one final technique that could also be beneficial, is a photo post advertising your product with a caption asking your followers about their thoughts on the item. An example would be, “Which detox water bottle style do you like best? Let us know below.”

Adding “Let us know below” gives your customers the opportunity to voice their opinion. From reading your followers comments, you can then see which product your customers like best and why. More Instagrammer’s are likely to follow your profile because they are able to communicate directly with your company.

Tip— Once you get your profile started and gain an abundance of followers, it is not required to post as listed above daily. Your company can execute a plan to post once or twice a week. When posting once or twice a week, it is not recommended to interact with your followers in every caption. Your caption can just be informative or even just updating your followers on what’s going on in your office.
